The sacred art form of iconography has fascinated and mystified audiences since the
prehistoric Church. Icon classes 2019 explains
that icons were introduced as small paintings of martyrs,
saints, and symbols brushed on the walls of the catacombs in Rome. Today, new
Christian icons are being created by Orthodox, Catholics, and
Protestants. The person who creates such art forms is known as an iconographer.
An iconographer must always be informed by an example in
order for its message to become a living, active force, shaping man’s
mentality, his views of the world and of life. Also, a true iconographer must
cooperate with the prototype he represents, with his own experience of being
holy by heart. He must be a creative painter who recognizes and reveals
another’s holiness through his own churchly experience.
Such icons are ceremonial objects where divinity and material
are inseparable. Most importantly, they are being understood as windows into
perpetuity for the young generation of Christians. Icon classes
2019 teach to
the usage of raw materials i.e. pigments, wood,
egg and animal glue through techniques and prayers, these materials are
transformed into a sacred icon that depicts the holiness of the almighty.
